“A house for children” Project elementary school Sri Lanka

After the devastating Tsunami in December 2004, which among other countries affected Sri Lanka, Vattenfall Europe and TVF decided to support this region. Together with the charitable association “Sternenzeit e. V.” the project “elementary school Sri Lanka” was started in January 2005. The goal was and is, to build a school in Ahangama and to secure the running costs for at least 10 years.

After the opening on October 3rd 2005 around 100 children have been provided with a place to learn and play. As well as learning important basic skills in languages and mathematics, these children now have the chance to work through the trauma of the Tsunami with qualified educators, and to rediscover a joyful feeling for life which was lost.
